Antennas for trams and light rail
Evolving antenna requirements for tram and light rail connectivity
Mass transit applications are facing increasing demands for connectivity and bandwidth – tram and light rail applications are no exception. While full rolling stock grade antennas may be required for some light rail applications, others that operate without overhead lines or at lower voltages may allow a broader range of antenna types to be deployed.
Panorama has adapted and qualified some of our versatile vehicle antenna platforms to cater to this market. These antennas have been proven through deployment in the public safety and utilities sectors for mission-critical applications. Now certified by independent test houses for compliance with common rail standards, they represent a fit-for-purpose alternative to heavy-duty rolling stock grade antennas.
These antennas are supported by a range of rail approved cables approved to EN45545-2. This includes our FR RG174 pigtail cables used on the Mako® and Great White® antennas and our FR CS32 and FR CS240 extension coaxial cables.
