Providing Connectivity for Norwegian Public Health Care

01

The Challenge

In recent years, wireless and mobile technologies have received considerable attention by the healthcare community. Increasingly, health organisations are deploying technologies to support the latest mobile applications and next generation wireless services. The Norwegian Public Health Care Enterprise (Nasjonal IKT HF) is one of them.

In 2018, Nasjonal IKT HF rolled out a new interregional project called “Robust Mobilt Helsenett (RMH) – Robust Mobile Health Network”, to establish a common solution for mobile data communication for use in the prehospital part of the health system such as ambulances. Securing a reliable connectivity was the most critical factor for the success of this new project as a truly connected mobile health network could only be achieved if these vehicles were connected at all times. In order to do that, the ambulances needed to connect to all three cellular providers in Norway, with the ability to run two networks concurrently. A robust and reliable antenna was of paramount importance to provide a seamless communication for connecting the ambulances to their stakeholders.

The Antenna GPSD MiMo Sharkee™

The GPSD MiMo SharkeeTM is a sleek shark-fin style all-in-one vehicle antenna solution. It is an ideal antenna for public safety, industrial and transport applications.

Its compact OEM style shark fin housing contains 2×2 MiMo antenna function for 5G/4G/3G/2G, 2×2 MiMo antenna function for 2.4/5.8GHz WiFi and an active antenna for GPS/GNSS. In addition, there is an integral stud mount for an external antenna whip that can support VHF, UHF or 700/800MHz antennas.

The GPSD combines multiple antenna functions in one discrete housing

requiring only a single hole to mount, making it an effective and efficient antenna for any vehicle.

The Client: Wireless Communication

Established in 1982 in Norway, Wireless Communication, part of the VHF Group, is one the biggest players in the Norwegian digital radio market (DMR and Tetra). They have an unparalleled product and industry knowledge and often utilise Panorama Antennas products as a perfect fit for customers’ connectivity requirements.

The Solution

The main goal of the “Robust Mobile Health Network” was to establish a reliable communication platform for mobile data solutions in ambulances and an antenna covering 450 MHz, LTE 700-2700 MHz (2×2 MIMO), WiFi 2.4/5.8 GHz (2×2 MIMO) with a GPS/GNSS reception was a key compo- nent delivering this. Knowing they had challenges, the project management established a cooperation with Wireless Communication to source the ideal antenna that can deliver all these requirements.

Following a comprehensive product testing phase, the GPSD-7-27-24-58 became a part of solution chosen by Wireless Communication AS due to its proven performance and reliability even under extreme conditions. The ambulances were equipped with two GPSD antennas and 450 MHz LTE whips.

These “all-in-one” antennas helped to address the 4G LTE band including LTE 450 and proved to be the perfect solution for medical vehicles which cannot afford downtime.
